NRA 2012: A successful event in Chicago

The NRA, held at Chicago’s McCormick Place May 5-8, has proven to be one of the most relevant industry events on Sammic’s 2012 calendar. 

This edition has seen a positive growth in attendee and exhibitor numbers, and Sammic being at a privileged location has noticed a positive influx of visitors from the previous year. The 2012. But it has not all been an increase in quantity of visitors, quality has been on the rise as well. This show has enabled Sammic team to meet with many of its representatives, consultants, dealers and end users both from North and South America and get them acquainted with the new product introductions.. Moreover, during this days new business opportunities have arisen from all corners of the Nation and new rep groups have been added to the network.

Sammic’s team at the show was made up of Xabier Goenaga, Agustín Quesada and Gorka Agirrezabal from Sammic headquarters in Spain, and Jorge Bianchi, James Pearson and Julen Ibarzabal from the US subsidiary

Showcased lines at the show were Food Prep Equipment (hand mixers, vegetable preparation machines, combination vegetable prep-vertical cutter mixers, potato peelers and planetary mixers), Food Preservation (vacuum packing machines and accessories) and Cutlery Dryiers & Polishers. .

The brand new line of Thermal Cirtulators and Water Baths for Sous Vide cooking were showcased at this event to complement the already successful vacuum packing machine line. Feedback on the sous vide units has been so positive and this new category is likely to be added to the US product offering in the near future.

Luuk Hoffman and Brenden Darby win 4th Sammic Scholarship

The names of the winners of the latest edition of Sammic Scholarships at BasqueStage project were published yesterday. 

The jury from Sammic and Restaurant Martín Berasategui, through careful consideration of experience, communication skills, and videos and recipes submitted, has chosen the following cooks to be the next Sammic Scholars for BasqueStage:

Brenden Darby

Brenden Darby is a graduate of Johnson & Wales University, where he graduated Dean’s List and Honors Society. He is also completing is WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) Advanced Certificate. He recently spent six months traveling and volunteering in Southeast Asia, and also has varied restaurant experience under his belt.

Luuk Hoffman

Luuk Hoffman is a young Dutch cook, a graduate of the Hotel School in the Hague and a current student at Sterklas in Amsterdam for an advanced culinary degree. He has worked with an impressive roster of chefs and his ambition is to cook in top restaurants across the world and eventually own his own place.
